In fact, Clear Lake offers many employment opportunities that you would expect to find in a much larger community, right outside your front door. Clear Lake's economic strength is one of the biggest reasons why people relocate to the area every year. Clear Lake is the home of the Johnson Space Center, an employer of thousands of area residents, but the Clear Lake economy is comprised of much more than the space program. It is a complex and diverse system that includes many industries, services, and recreational opportunities. The four largest industries that form the economic base of Clear Lake are the aerospace, tourism, boating and petrochemical industries. Aviation, banking and finance, education, real estate, retail and the health care professions are a few of the outgrowth industries that support these four primaries. The strength and diversity that is the result of the combined force of all these industries maintains the economic vitality for the entire region.
